For example, there are some increase bonus codes that are put into place that are really more restorative bonus codes than anything else. For example, suppose that Poker Site X, a fictional poker site, has a deposit bonus that is worth 100% up to $200. This is a very reasonable poker bonus and they get some good business with this bonus. However, the poker site decides that they would get far better business if they put an increase bonus code out on the market. The only problem with that strategy however is that they do not have the money to afford the up front cost that would entail, even though they would guarantee themselves a profit in the long run.
So, instead of putting a true increase bonus code out on the market, Poker Site X instead decides to reduce their deposit bonus to 100% up to $100 and then puts a code out on the market that will increase this bonus to 100% up to $200. At first glance it seems good, but people that have been to Poker Site X know that the old bonus was the exact same amount. In essence, what Poker Site X has done is put out a bonus code that restores their old poker bonus rather than actually gives you something for nothing which is what true increase bonus codes are supposed to do. Most of the people have not encountered Poker Site X however and for that reason they do not realize the bait and switch that has gone on.
Are most poker sites like this? The answer, thankfully, is no. Poker sites in general realize that there are watchdog groups at every corner of the internet and for that reason sites that engage in dishonest marketing activities such as the restorative bonus code outlined above are punished by the marketplace for it. A poker site would only be drawing on completely new players that have not read a website about them if they were to attempt this and that is not a good position for an online poker site to be in. This does not mean that sites do not attempt it from time to time (because there are some that do), just that you need to be on the lookout for sites that are potentially dishonest in manners such as the one outlined above.
